Program Description

Language and Translation program offers courses intended to develop students' academic and professional abilities and enhance their translation and communication skills. The courses aim at qualifying students to become competent language specialists, content writers, and interpreters. The department also offers media as a minor degree. Students are introduced to various forms of translation and interpretation in numerous genres using state-of-the-art technologies and fully equipped language labs. Using advanced software and media tools in our studios, the students master dubbing and subtitling skills. Taking into consideration that learning other languages is an asset, Language and Translation Department students also take four intensive Spanish language courses. The Language and Translation Bachelor programme is a 4-year degree programme taught in 8 semesters with 144 credit hours. With regards to student workload, it is equivalent to a 4-year Bachelor programme in Europe.

Learning Outcomes

  • Upon completion of the programme, graduates of the Language and Translation Department are expected to: • become distinguished calibres in the fields of language and translation to keep up with the challenges faced by the Arab world, given the crucial role played by language as a universal means of communication in today’s world, while displaying practical skills of media studies. • demonstrate the necessary knowledge and skills to work in a number of regional and international organizations and institutions with international standards. • be qualified to conduct comparative literary and linguistic studies. • master their mother tongue in addition to two foreign languages, to enable them to act as mediators between these languages and cultures. • develop intellectual and personal skills in an atmosphere that is both challenging and supportive, while advancing new approaches to education and more effective ways to

Admission Requirements

The minimum requirements that must be met by all students wanting to join the college for undergraduate degree are: Holder of high school certificate or any equivalent. Student must not exceed 22 years (for Egyptians) at the beginning of classes. For Egyptian applicants, the student's military conscription status must be declared.

Tests & Prerequisites

Sitting for and passing the placement test is a must to enroll in all majors at the AASTMT.
