By the end of this course students should be able to: Understand the importance of tailoring writing style and tone for specific media platforms such as newspapers, online articles, and social media. Analyze and interpret various forms of media content to comprehend how different techniques are used to engage and persuade audiences. Evaluate the credibility and reliability of sources in media writing to ensure accuracy and ethical standards are maintained. Demonstrate a solid grasp of key journalistic principles and practices, including fact-checking, objectivity, and writing for different audiences. Apply knowledge of copyright laws, fair use principles, and ethical considerations when creating and disseminating media content. Write news articles. Use AP Style format in writing. Write various types of feature articles. Create persuasive content for advertisements. Analyze political speeches for legitimization and propaganda techniques. Explain the features of language in any given media content. Apply journalistic principles to write clear, accurate, and unbiased news articles for various media platforms. Develop proficiency in conducting thorough research, fact-checking, and interviewing techniques to ensure high-quality media content. Enhance their self-esteem by supporting and encouraging to write and trust their writing talent. Enhance their presentation skills. Practice their adaptation to team work.

Objectives

  • This course deals with different kinds of writing for various media purposes. The course starts with the basics of reporting and then it covers writing for traditional newspapers using accurate grammar and correct AP Style, writing for magazines, and writing for advertising. The course also covers the writing for new media such as blogs, twitter & e-newspapers. The course further introduces the various types of feature articles and magazine design. In addition, the course touches upon the techniques used for appropriate media writing and the methods that could be applied to achieve that.
