Description

On completion of this course, students will be able to: Demonstrate a clear understanding of the principles of photography. Demonstrate a clear understanding of camera mechanism, Aperture, types of lenses and Depth of Field. Recognize storytelling in photography. Distinguish between different photography techniques. Explain studio light setup, continuous light and flash light. Recognize the different modes of white balance and their indications. Analyze camera exposure. Break down different camera techniques to compose well-exposed pictures. Criticize the use of exposure and light positions with their effects on the picture. Analyze the effect of different focal lengths on the picture. Evaluate portrait photography using different light compositions. Analyze the effect of different sources of light on white balance in cameras. Practice aperture, Depth of Field and the use of focal length with relation to the depth of field Compose pictures using rules of composition. Use shutter speed in relation to sources of light. Practice how to control exposure on camera. Practice lighting and modeling in the studio. Create shutter drag pictures using strobe light. Solve problems of visual representation and provide solutions. Use critical thinking and analytical skills. Lead and motivate individuals. Work in a stressful environment.

Objectives

  • This course introduces students to the art of photography. It familiarizes them with different techniques to capture good photographs. Students practice setting up newspaper or magazine page layouts and choosing the photos that best fit the headlines and illustrate the stories. By the end of this course, students are expected to hand in photos to accompany story headlines or articles.
