1. Knowledge and Understanding On completion of this course, students will be able to: 1.1 Show a basic knowledge of film texts from a range of national and cultural contexts. 1.2 Define cinematic language, including mise en scene, cinematography, editing, and sound. 1.3 Comprehend the impact of narrative structures on storytelling and audience engagement. 1.4 Demonstrate an understanding of the cultural and historical context of cinema and fiction. 1.5 Identify and classify various film genres and their conventions 2. Intellectual Skills On completion of this course, students will be able to: 2.1 Apply the methods of critical analysis specific to the study of films. 2.2 Interpret the visual language of cinema, elements of mise en scene and visual motifs. 2.3 Examine films in relation to cultural and social issues . 2.4 Analyse narrative structures’ impact on storytelling. 2.5 Apply appropriate conventions in the presentation of written work 3. 3. Professional and Practical skills On completion of this course, students will be able to: 3.1 Evaluate and critique cinematic work. 3.2 Apply practical skills in scriptwriting, storyboarding and various pre production processes 3.3 Demonstrate proficiency in basic filmmaking techniques and equipment 3.4 Conduct in-depth research on cinematic history, genres and various film theories 3.5 Apply theoretical knowledge into practical, creative outputs in filmmaking. 4. General and Transferable Skills On completion of this course, students will be able to: 4.1 Discuss issues related to their work, explain and analyse the methodology used in order to reach the final visual result through oral presentations and written documentation. 4.2 Utilize library and online resources and relevant research tools to retrieve primary and secondary sources. 4.3 Generate and present critical work employing relevant research skills. 4.4 Develop the necessary skills for making oral presentations. 4.5 Develop the skills necessary for productive team work.

Objectives

  • -Explore the medium of cinema as a cultural product, a popular form of entertainment and a technological apparatus. - Assist in the development of critical and analytical skills specific to the study of films - Introduce students to a variety of film genres, styles, regional and world cinema cultures and practices - Help cultivate writing and research skills specific to film criticism
