- Understand the four characteristics of media writing: accuracy, clarity, precision, and efficiency - Acquire the foundation on which writing skills could be built - Acquire the know-how of writing for publication - Understand the principles of good writing - Understand the implications of communication in the current media ecosystem - Gain awareness of the importance of users experience and audience identification - Understand the relationship between the story, form, and media choices - Gain awareness of the challenges and opportunities for writing and editing raised by the current media environment - Analyze visual and written texts for surface meaning and beyond - Develop and enhance interpretive ability - Analyze and address common writing problems - Identify targeted audience and create ideas accordingly - Obtain the ability to decide on the media form and choices as guided by the story - Define and develop goals for writing and editing for different audiences - Practice the principles of good writing in the current media environment - Plan writing projects with its different phases; from the idea creation to publication - Practice text production; starting from draft preparation till the final publication stage - Develop adaptability and experimental skills through exposure to different tools and techniques - Meet the set goals for writing for different audiences - Critique one’s own work and develop the ability to provide constructive feedback for other’s work based on critical evaluation - Demonstrate research and research planning abilities - Develop critical thinking skills
