Program Description

• Duration: 5 semesters • Number of courses: 9 • Total number of credit hours: 38 (Courses: 30 credit hours + Dissertation: 8 credit hours) • Classes Conduction: Weekends (Fridays – Saturdays)

Learning Outcomes

  • By the end of the programme, learners will be able to: • be more familiar with literary texts and film texts and be able to compare literary works to films; • analyze and evaluate film and literary texts from a variety of genres, periods and contexts in relaton to the social, economic and political contexts where they were produced and received; • explore specialisations within the area of film/literature such as documaentary film in the 20th century, Cold War literature, political cinema and literature in the 21st century; • conduct independent research employing skills acquired through research-oriented teaching and the completion of projects; • develop skills in literary analysis and critical writing; • analyze works of literature in one or more interpretive contexts or frameworks; • be aware of comparative methodologies and literary critical theories; • demonstrate the ability to apply comparative methodologies and literary critical theories in examining literary texts and other cultural products; • gain an understanding of literary texts within social, cultural, and historical contexts; • develop research skills in the field of literature and film; • write critically about literature and film, using textual evidence with proper citation; and • use language for aesthetic effect.

  • Careers are available in the areas of language and literature teaching, literary criticism and media organizations.

Potential Candidates: Graduates of colleges of Language and Communication, faculties of Arts (English Department), faculties of Al-Alsun (English Department), High Institute of Cinema, and other equivalent disciplines as accredited by the Supreme Council of Egyptian Universities (grade: GOOD)
