By the end of this course learners will be able to:rn1. identify the theories and concepts of semantics and pragmatics.rn2. interpret the structural and generative paradigms in semantics.rn3. interpret speaker`s meaning by examining speaker`s identities, intentions and beliefs as well as the place and time of the utterance.rn4. examine meaning in context, and the influence it can have on the message.rn5. recognize implicature, i.e. things that are communicated even though they are not explicitly expressed.rn6. examine relative distance, both social and physical, between speakers in order to understand what determines the choice of what is said and what is not said.rn7. solve problems related to semantics and pragmatics.
