Identify the basics and role of geopolitics. Define geopolitical structures. Interpret the interplay between space and politics. Identify the various definitions of geopolitics and their implications for the field of international relations. Comprehend the elements and nature of power, power analysis, and power projection in world politics. Be acquainted with geopolitical theories of land, sea, air and their contemporary applications. Describe different tactics and strategies of power in international relations. Compare and contrast classical and contemporary modes of power demonstration. Focus on the impact of various ideological, socio-economic and demographic changes in world regions. Assess different degrees of potential power of a state, region or a union in establishing their domestic, regional and foreign relations. Appraise the contribution of cultural characteristics as to the formation and evaluation of international power relations. Role-play geo-political structures. Estimate the role of spatio-temporal factors in the enhancement/limitations of relations. Collaborate with strategic power structures at workplace environments.

Objectives

  • This course aims at providing students with a wide understanding of geopolitics, how it works, how it can be used to assess the capabilities of a state, or a region in terms of its domestic and foreign policy orientations. Different aspects of the geopolitical approach will be analyzed considering geographical, cultural and temporal differences. The students are expected to finish this course with a greater knowledge on how to assess geographical issues, improve their understanding of foreign policy and international system analyses.
