Program Description

This program offers several unique features among other pharmacy programs in Egypt: The program comprises 195 credit hours their assessment results graded from F up to A and 640 hours of summer training as experiential learning their assessment results graded as Satisfactory “S” or Fail “F” and their successful completion is required for graduation. These credits are distributed among courses that employ a variety of educational and assessment techniques including the traditional didactic lectures in addition to the nontraditional problem-based and team-based learning modules aiming to maximize student engagement and broaden the scope of learning. The course content is designed to offer the students a stepwise exposure to the different professional competencies with increasing depth as study levels progress. A single competency will be targeted by several courses in a spiral manner and integrated within a matrix of other relevant competencies to achieve the desired practice and knowledge educational outcomes. Some courses are grouped into knowledge clusters to link related scientific fields and highlight the interdisciplinary nature of the pharmacy profession. The contents of the courses in the same cluster delivered by different departments in the college and are fully integrated so that topics are interrelated to make the best use of time, eliminate redundancy, and enhance the achievement of educational outcomes and facilitate academic advising. Although courses in the same cluster are not co-requisite for each other, it is advisable that the student enroll in these courses in the same semester to facilitate the flow of knowledge. Nonetheless, if a student failed to enroll in any of the courses in a certain cluster, this will never jeopardize his progress and achievements in the program. Other courses that are taught in the same semester and not integrated in a cluster serve to develop diverse competencies needed in the field of pharmacy.

Learning Outcomes

  • The College of Pharmacy at the AASTMT will offer a Bachelor of Pharmacy (B. Pharm). The Bachelor of Pharmacy Program is carefully designed and will be continuously updated according to national and international needs and requirements in the healthcare sector. The main goals of the program are to produce well trained pharmacy graduates who can effectively handle healthcare challenges in the local and regional practice using the updated guidelines for care and to integrate recent advances in education, research and practice to enhance career path and development of the pharmacists. In the future, the College will indulge in the world-class research in both basic and applied pharmaceutical sciences, clinical pharmacy sciences, and health services. This will help the College to contribute to the professional education of practitioners and provide an intellectual and academic atmosphere in the community.

  • Various career options are open to the pharmacist upon graduation and licensure. These opportunities include: Community pharmacy and consultant pharmacists Hospital pharmacy The pharmaceutical industry (manufacturing process, research and development (R & D), medical information, and sales) Bioequivalence and bioavailability centers Pharmacy regulatory authorities Academic pharmacy Pharmacovigilance and post marketing studies centers for drug utilization review/drug use evaluation In this context, “Pharmacovigilance” refers to the practice of monitoring the effects of medical drugs after they have been licensed for use, especially to identify and evaluate previously unreported adverse reactions

Admission Requirements

Students must meet the following admission requirements: a. Completion of secondary education certificate or equivalent certificates according to the particular requirements of the college of Pharmacy as specified by the Supreme Council of Egyptian Universities. b. Meeting the minimum score required to join the college which is announced before the beginning of each semester, in light of the minimum score mandated by AASTMT, as well as the annually announced terms, regulations and qualifying courses per certificate as specified by the Supreme Council of Education Affairs. c. Being physically fit as per stipulated levels. d. Showing good conduct with no dishonoring judicial sentence issued against them. e. Submission of all required admission documents.

Tests & Prerequisites

Approval of delegating entities in case of student’s delegation from any country or authority. Passing admission exams determined by AASTMT. Pledging to follow AASTMT rules and regulations. The Academy may reject any student without stating reasons. Before the start of each semester (Fall – Spring), AASTMT shall determine the number of students that are to be accepted in the college of Pharmacy. Students are accepted according to admission policies set by the Supreme Council of Education Affairs, after passing admission exams and according to the terms specified prior to admission.

The Bachelor of Pharmacy program spans five study levels over 10 semesters. Four experiential learning rotations are placed in each summer semester starting from the one following level 2. In addition to mandatory courses that cover the minimum requirements to meet the targeted educational outcomes of the program, the program offers a collection of elective courses that are intended to advance the students’ knowledge and expertise in an area of their choice. The course content is designed to offer the students a stepwise exposure to the different professional competencies with increasing depth. A single competency will be targeted by several courses in a spiral manner and integrated within a matrix of other relevant competencies to achieve the desired practice and knowledge educational outcomes.
