Description

This course represents the first of the “Training Rotation Series”. Activities for this course are designed to introduce the students to basic management and orientation skills in different pharmacy practice settings in Community Pharmacies (160 actual training time in summer). Students are required to identify drug dispensing procedures. Students are closely followed by training site preceptors and report to College preceptors in weekly progress review meetings.

Objectives

  • I‐Knowledge and understanding: By the end of this Training rotation I in different pharmacy practice settings, the student should be able to: • Define appropriate and accurate patient information in order to process prescriptions and provide drug information. • List medication profiles and other appropriate monitoring instruments for therapeutic problem solving. • Identify and track drug ordering and supply methods, drug pricing, drug dispensing II‐Intellectual skills By the end of this Training rotation I in different pharmacy practice settings, the student should be able to: • Recognize and appropriately manage patients with physical and sensory deficits to help improve medication use and any issues regarding compliance. • Critically assess the procedural aspects of the practice setting and recognize potential causes of drug errors. • Use appropriate pharmacy laws and ethics at the practice site. • Participate in the preparation, handling, dispensing, administering and monitoring of therapeutic agents at the practice site.
