Description

This course introduces the students to activities within a single organization (Logistics) and networks of companies that work together (supply chains). In this course traditional logistics focuses on activities such as buying, distribution and inventory management. Alternatively, supply chain management deals with new product development, finance, and customer service as well as design, planning, execution, control, and monitoring of supply chain activities with the objective of creating net value, building a competitive infrastructure, synchronizing supply with demand and measuring performance. The student will also be exposed to marketing of products including marketing systems, market segmentation and buyer’s behavior, product development, pricing, promotion and basic distribution strategies and more importantly the application of these topics to the Egyptian environment and market.

  • By the end of the course students will be able to: a. Knowledge and Understanding a.1. Define the basic concepts of logistics and the difference between logistics and supply chain management a.2. Demonstrate the main logistic activities within a pharmaceutical company a.3. Acknowledge procurement, warehouse and transportation management activity a.4. Recognize the role of IT in improving the efficiency of logistic operations. a.5. Identify the latest trends and issues related to the field of logistics and supply chain management. b. Intellectual Skills b.1. Calculate the forecasted demand in order to match between supply and customer demand. b.2. Plan and design logistic distribution networks and evaluate their performance. b.3. Differentiate between the different storage methods and systems. b.4. Select the criteria of storage system and handling equipment. b.5. Calculate the size of storage area and storage price service using different methods for pricing. c. Professional and Practical Skills c.1. Analyze logistic operations and supply chain to achieve a competitive advantage. c.2. Develop the organizational structure required to manage the business logistics function c.3. Define the main decisions of the warehouse manager, employ the material, human resources and other resources to achieve the objectives of warehouse management. c.4. Select the relevant software for warehouse operations. c.5. Apply various performance management methods to measure store performance and innovative solutions to solve problems. d. General and Transferable Skills d.1. Develop oral, written and technology-supported communication skills d.2. Adopt leadership skills and teamwork in different cultures in the national and international community. d.3. Perform work in accordance with legal rules and ethical and professional standards. d.4. Enhance self-learning continuously.
