Description

This course represents the last of the “Training Rotation Series”. This course involves training in an advanced setting. The initial half of the course will be dedicated to training in hospitals that encompasses Inter-Professional Learning Activities with medical and nursing trainees. These activities are intended to foster the necessary knowledge, skills and attitudes for a collaborative environment for the healthcare team. In addition to the inter-professional activities, other activities for this part are designed to train the students to provide patient care to an in-patient. Students are required to perform advanced complexity activities including patient education, medication reconciliation, assessment of drug therapy efficacy, discharge planning, and formulation of pharmaceutical care plans. Participants are also required to critically review common patient or procedural issues in their practice setting and design a simple resource to address one or more of these problems. Students are closely followed by training site preceptors and report to College preceptors in bi-weekly progress review meetings. For the second part of the course, students are provided with the choice to continue hospital training in a more specialized setting or to shift their training to a drug manufacturing site to align with their interests and selection of the advanced pharmacy electives.
