Description
The course aims at studying the structure and of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells. In this course study will include many different areas of cellular biology involving: the synthesis and of macromolecules such as DNA, RNA, and proteins control of gene expression membrane and organelle structure and bioenergetics and cellular communication, transformation transport, receptors, and cell signalling the cytoskeleton, the extracellular matrix, and cell movements, together with the genetic basis of inheritance will be discussed.

Objectives
- Domain (1): Fundamental knowledge
By the end of the course the student should be able to:
1.1 Demonstrate understanding of knowledge of the basics of cell biology.
1.2 Explain the correlation between structure and function of different cell organelles, memorize the basics of molecular biology.
1.3 Describe the types of cell transport and describe extracellular matrix and types of cell junctions.
1.4 Recall the basic steps in cellular protein synthesis.
Domain (2): Professional and Ethical Practice
At the end of the course the student should be able to:
2.1 Compare different types of cells signaling and distinguish the different factors affecting gene expression.
2.2 Analyze data and solve problems related to cell counting and plasma protein analysis.
2.3 Contribute to planning and conducting research studies using appropriate methodologies.
Domain (3): Pharmaceutical Care
At the end of the course the student should be able to:
3.1 Gather and integrate information relevant to the applications of cell biology.
3.2 Master practical skills concerning preparation of physiological solutions and examination of different tissues using the light microscope and dissection of experimental animals.
3.3 Critically evaluate by means of assignments the different topics related to cell biology.
