Description

The course provides the students with the fundamentals of the control communicable and non-communicable diseases with special emphasis on antibiotic resistance and antibiotic stewardship as well as emerging pathogens. The course also covers nutritional health, occupational medicine and women’s, children’s and adolescent’s health and the relationship between the environment and public health. It is anticipated that students will achieve an understanding of the optimal environmental conditions for improved public health such as air, food and water purity and sanitary water disposal. The ability to understand and evaluate the biological and chemical basis for health threats emanating from the environment is also gained.

Objectives

  • Domain (1): Fundamental knowledge By the end of the course the student should be able to: 1.1 Identify the fundamentals of preventing and controlling communicable and non-communicable diseases, nutritional health, occupational health, family health, and the relationship between environment and public health. 1.2 Outline antibiotic resistance, antibiotic stewardship, and emerging pathogens. 1.3 Recognize optimal environmental conditions for public health, such as air, food, and water purity, sanitary water disposal, and the evaluation of biological and chemical health threats from the environment. . Domain (2): Professional and Ethical Practice At the end of the course the student should be able to: 2.1 Implement antibiotic stewardship programs and controlling antibiotic resistance. 2.2. Conduct in addressing public health issues, especially those related to vulnerable populations. 2.3 Adhere to ethical and legal guidelines in public health practices. Domain (3): Pharmaceutical Care At the end of the course the student should be able to: 3.1 Apply public health principles in disease prevention and health promotion. 3.2 Implement health programs that improve community health outcomes. Domain (4): Personal Practice At the end of the course the student should be able to: 4.1 Retrieve and critically analyze information, identify and solve problems, and work autonomously and effectively in a team. 4.2 Demonstrate responsibility for team performance and peer evaluation of other team members, and express communication and time management skills. 4.3 Practice independent/self learning needed for continuous professional development.
