Description

This course comprises carboxylic acids, sulfonic acids, nitro compounds. amino compounds, diazonium salts, cycloalkanes and heterocyclic compounds. The students are exposed to the chemistry and properties of these classes of compounds, some name and type of reactions involved in their synthesis and reactions as well as some relevant mechanisms.

Objectives

  • Domain (1): Fundamental knowledge By the end of the course the student should be able to: Demonstrate the chemical structure and functional groups of different organic compounds (carboxylic acid, nitrogenous compounds, cycloalaknes and heterocycles Identify the proper chemical names and terms of studied organic compunds 1.3 Integrate the knowledge of organic compunds basicity and acidity and other physicochemical properities to handle , identify and prepare different organic compounds such as slupha drugs, azo dyes. Domain (2): Professional and Ethical Practice At the end of the course the student should be able to: 2.1 Apply organic chemistry principles for purification and identification of organic chemical compounds. 2.2 Recognize different principles in syhthesis of variuos synthesitic organic compounds. 2.3 Handle different organic compounds used in the pharmaceutical field. Domain (4): Personal Practice At the end of the course the student should be able to: 4.1 Demonstrate responsibility for team performance and express time management skills. 4.2 Retrieve and critically analyze information, identify and solve problems, and work autonomously and effectively in a team. 4.3 Practice independent learning needed for continuous professional development.
