Program Description

• Analyze and apply the knowledge, understanding and proficiency while providing services to the maritime industry. • Lead and engage in teams in problem solving tasks through analytical thinking and effective communicative abilities. • Continue to advance his/her knowledge and competencies to explore future development in the maritime industries. • Practice ethical and professional values in providing services to the recipients and providers of the maritime industry.

Learning Outcomes

  • Upon completion of their course, students will be capable graduate Marine Electrical Engineers, and able to: a. Demonstrate a high level of autonomy, professional accountability and ethical conduct through the application of design, research and project management techniques while concurrently displaying an awareness of professional marine electrical engineering practice. b. Investigate, analyze, utilize problem solving techniques and decision-making methodologies to address complex problems in both the maritime industry as well as in wider engineering fields. c. Apply knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering principles and management methods to solve complex engineering problems, while developing critical thinking skills and entrepreneurship to formulate innovative and practical solutions with intellectual independence. d. Exhibit depth and breadth of marine electrical engineering knowledge by explaining the significance of gained knowledge in developing and managing marine electrical, electronic and control systems, while demonstrating ability to analyze emergency situations and organize effective response. e. Critically analyze and solve specific marine electrical engineering problems through gathering, synthesizing and critically evaluating data /information from a range of sources relevant to the problem and correctly apply relevant and appropriate practical and/or theoretical techniques to monitor systems and plan effective maintenance of electrical plant and machinery. f. Practice critical thinking utilizing appropriate computer-based methods, mathematical models and scientific principles for the development of reliable control system. g. Demonstrate thorough understanding of leadership techniques, business practices and entrepreneurship. h. Identify the importance of selecting appropriate means of communication with the wider community for the safe operation of ship, protection of the marine environment and community, while performing a continuous self-review for career development and as a mean of lifelong learning curve. i. Demonstrate a high level of communicational skills in professional practice and articulate complex knowledge using appropriate written and oral forms to communicate with the community and key stakeholders of the industry, such as shipping companies, classification societies, charterers, flag states, port states etc. j. Demonstrate independent initiatives and leadership skills in diverse technical teams from various backgrounds. k. Plan and execute work objectives, priorities and schedule, while taking responsibility of team performance and practice ethical conduct in work.

Brief

The main aim of this program is to provide the Marine Electrical Engineering students with knowledge and skills that are necessary for the entry requirements of Electro-Technical Officer (ETO). The program is aligned with the 2010 STCW Convention Chapter III, Section A-III/6 as key part of the requirements of the Certificate of Competence for the functions related to electricity, electronic and control engineering for operation, Maintenance and repair of large ships at the Operational Level..
