Overall Course Objectives
The course aim to establish baseline of information & awareness of the principles of seamanship and provide the student with the ability & skills for the application of the main items of the practical seamanship, On Completion of the course, students should satisfactory understand Types & Parts of ships – Manning of merchant ships – Ropes & wires – Blocks & Tackles – Types & Parts of derricks – Anchor & Cable – Load Line marks & Draft – Ship’s Maintenance – Ship’s Handling & Steering orders. The course based on all relevant IMO resolutions and guidelines available at the time, the course was prepared by (IMO model course 7.03 and 1.34), to meet the mandatory requirements for knowledge, understanding and proficiency in Table A-II/1 of STCW as amended. (Manila, 2010), for Function 3: Controlling the Operation of the Ship and Care for Persons on Board at the Operational Level.

Define the merchant ships and understand the main concept.
Understand Steering orders.
Describe the types of Ropes& wires and their uses.
Classify types of Blocks & Tackles.
Define Types& Parts of derricks.
