Program Title: Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Electronics and Communications Engineering
Arab Academy for Science and Technology & Maritime Transport, College of Engineering & Technology, Electronics and Communications Engineering Department
OVERVIEW:
The Ph.D. program in Electronics and Communications Engineering is a research-based program. It offers a multitude of research in the following core areas: digital signal processing, communication systems and data networking, very large scale integration (VLSI), applied electromagnetics, embedded systems, and robotics. The main focus of the program is on the research work leading to a doctoral dissertation and top quality publications in recognized journals and flagship conferences. The work towards the dissertation requires a solid understanding of the state-of-art techniques in the research topic of interest to be able to address the recent trends and challenges. The research outcome has to demonstrate both numerical and analytical or experimental, validations for original contributions and novel methodologies.
The Ph.D. requires the completion of courses, a field comprehensive examination, a thesis proposal and a research dissertation. Applicants to the Ph.D. will normally hold the equivalent of an M.Sc. degree with thesis. The course work is to strengthen the students’ background to carry out the research work. The purpose of the Ph.D. comprehensive examination is to confirm that the student has sufficient depth of knowledge in the major field, and sufficient research ability, to successfully complete the Ph.D. program. Each student who successfully completes the Ph.D. comprehensive examination is required to write a Ph.D. thesis proposal, and present and defend the proposal orally before a committee. Students who do not successfully complete the Ph.D. comprehensive examination will have their registration terminated. After fulfilling the defended proposal objectives, the student will write the research dissertation and defend it in a final oral examination.
Vision
The vision of the Ph.D. program is to provide a high quality research in fields of electrical and control engineering leading to graduate Ph.D. holders capable of formulating and solving research problems through innovative solutions.
PROGRAM OBJECTIVES:
The Ph.D. program objectives is to prepare the candidate for a career in research and development, academia, or highly specialized technical consulting. Ph.D. graduates will develop the ability to undertake independent research, to prepare papers for publication, and to develop leading edge expertise in one specific sub-discipline.
The primary goal of the program is to provide students with an opportunity to contribute to the advancement of knowledge in the field of electronics and communications engineering. The program caters to demands of industry and research institutes and places a strong emphasis on original thinking, professional behavior and ethical conduct. The objectives of the program are for students to acquire:
