On completion of this course, students will be able to: Demonstrate a clear understanding of the nature of the legal register. Recognize the different types of legal texts Identify linguistic and cultural barriers in legal language. Compare and contrast semantic and syntactic principles governing legal language in both Arabic and English. Use Latin and French legal terminology where necessary. Analyze legal documents and produce appropriate translation. Describe the key features of legal texts. Use formal legal terminology. Construct standard legal syntactic structures. Practice analyzing legal documents based on their genre. Evaluate the translation techniques used in selected translated legal documents. Apply translation strategies that abide by the norms of legal language Translate legal documents effectively. Rewrite translated documents in standard legal format. Revise translated documents. Evaluate the adequacy of rendering legal equivalence in legal documents. Generate structures that operates within the target language Differentiate between the features of legal language in English and Arabic. Select accurate terminology that helps avoid legal loopholes. Discuss different features of the legal language and trace them in Arabic and English. Apply the translation techniques learnt in rendering legal texts. Use the skills learned to produce adequate translation of legal documents. Describe the linguistic and cultural challenges in legal translation.
