Description
This course introduces the study of interior design through strategies and techniques for designs that promote energy and water efficiency, conservation of natural resources, nontoxic and healthy materials, and beauty and comfort in commercial interiors. It motivates students to design their own sustainable interior project with justification for the materials and design choices based on green rating systems and the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED standards.

Objectives
- Our built environment has a substantial impact on energy and material resources and is a critical determinant of health, comfort, and productivity for occupants. In response, there are numerous entities adopting green, sustainable criteria for new construction and renovations. This course approaches sustainable development for buildings by examining how architectural and interior components affect energy and water performance as well as human well-being. It also emphasizes the application of green building and sustainable design strategies to promote energy and water efficiency, conservation of natural resources, non-toxic materials and beauty and comfort in interior spaces.
