Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Architectural Engineering And Environmental Design
Objectives
The course aims to study the different re-generation approaches of historic contexts using multiple disciplines, such as: conservation of cultural significance and physical restoration, demographic and socio-economic factors, physical planning criteria, etc... The scope is to make students more competent in a cultural-critical methodology for the recognition of the qualities of cultural expressions, specific in each case. The course will also focus on the national and regional conservation projects that is currently undergoing significant changes, with implications for up-to-date planning approaches. The emphasis will be on acquiring a good understanding of conservation approaches and the relationship between the historic city and modern planning systems. Both urban design and conservation aspects of the course will explain the contribution that planning can make to designing and conserving the built and natural environment.
