Climate Watchers Initiative

We are very proud of the students of the Electrical Engineering and Control Department, Ibrahim Lotfy, Mohamed Atlam and Ahmed Tarek Mahmoud, whose teams won first and fourth places in presenting the best proposal for adaptation and resilience to the effects of climate change in the “Climate Guardians Initiative” workshop, which took place on February 27 and 28, 2022 at the AASTMT headquarters in Abu Qir- Alexandria, which was organized by Dr. Karim Mahmoud Tonbol, Vice Dean of the College of Maritime Transport and Technology for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research, in cooperation with the Climutopia Foundation and Nahdet El Mahrousa Association. 41 students from the Academy`s branches from Abu Qir, Wabour Al Mayah, Smart Village and Heliopolis participated in the event and the initiative included many activities, including:
Learn and Grow: Students learn how to grow available spaces, both in balconies and rooftops, with reused containers and low-cost soil.
Green Opportunities: Through which students learn about work areas related to the environment and how to link them to their current field of study, as well as scholarships in these areas and how to access them. The main purpose of the initiative was to raise youth awareness about the importance of climate change issues and its impacts on the various sustainable development goals related to the environment (SDG 6, 7, 13, 15). Learn some skills to reduce carbon footprint by changing some habits such as (reducing waste, reusing waste, reducing the use of plastic and non-biodegradable materials, as well as planting roofs and balconies). Identifying jobs and green opportunities for work and development. To produce students Initiatives and ideas that contribute to their communities` response to climate change
