Arab Academy for Science, Technology, and Maritime Transport had established the Architectural Engineering and Environmental Design Department to be the start of the College of Engineering and Technology in its new branch at Smart Village at 2012. The department was the start of the College of Engineering and technology in the campus. Every year, our department enhances its facilities, drawing halls, laboratories, and outcomes. The department has been reflected on all aspects of life and led to a new era of advanced technology.
The mission of the Architectural Engineering and Environmental Design Department at the College of Engineering and Technology, Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport –Smart Village Campus, is to develop young architects with creative minds who are equipped with knowledge and indispensable skills that may allow them to challenge global tribulations. The department works on graduating young architects that have the courage to act on their own beliefs sensibly and with responsibility toward global resources.
We currently offer two courses; both a Bachelor of Science (BSc) and a Master of Science (MSc) in Architectural Engineering and Environmental Design. The BSc is the professional degree qualifying for syndicated architectural practice, as recognized by the Egyptian Engineering Syndicate (EES) and the Egyptian Supreme Council of Universities (ESCU). This degree is awarded after five years of study; one year of general engineering studies (including a number of architectural modules), plus four years of specialized architectural education. The MSc, with its minimum study duration of two years, aims at providing students with advanced architectural knowledge as well as honing their research skills and critical engagement. MSc students may choose to specialize in various streams of built environment domains, and the course is designed to cater to students who wish to develop their professional practice prospects as well as those who plan for future academic careers.
At Smart Village, both our undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Architectural Engineering and Environmental Design are based on the same curriculum offered by that of our sister AASTMT schools across Egypt. However, we remain unique in our interpretation of the curriculum through an ethos of regarding the built environment as a lens to develop students’ understandings of local and regional issues, under the umbrella of ‘community engagement, conservation and revival.’ In parallel, we have also been exploring newer, unchartered territories; covering ambitious grounds afforded by recent global events and allowing opportunities for more speculative modes of inquiry across all years of study. By a merger of both positions, we aim at producing graduates who are cognizant of locally-situated knowledge in a larger, fast-developing global realm, and who will therefore be able to contribute to the country’s sustainable development goals as part of Egypt’s 2030 vision.
