Master Certificate Of Competency:

Candidates applying to sit for Master certificate of competency examination shall meet the following requirements according to ministerial decree 221/2013:

• Be holding 1^st Mate certificate of competency.
• Meet the medical fitness requirements for the certificate.
• Have an approved seagoing service of not less than 18 months as an officer in charge of navigation watch on ships of 3000 gross tonnage or more on ocean going voyages after the date of holding the 1^st Mate certificate of competency.
• Have completed the required upgrading training course in the recognized maritime institution.
• Have completed the required mandatory training courses in the recognized maritime institution in accordance to article 16 of the ministerial decree 221/2013.

 In case of completing the seagoing service on ships of less than 3000 gross tonnage, a tonnage limited certificate of competency will be issued after meeting the other requirements for certification. The tonnage limitation will only be removed after fulfilling seagoing service requirements on ships of 3000 gross tonnage or more and passing an oral exam.

Chief Mate Certificate Of Competency:

Candidates applying to sit for Chief Mate certificate of competency examination shall meet the following requirements according to ministerial decree 221/2013:

• Be holding 2^nd Mate certificate of competency.
• Meet the medical fitness requirements for the certificate.
• Have an approved seagoing service of not less than 18 months as an officer in charge of navigation watch on ships of 3000 gross tonnage or more on ocean going voyages after the date of holding the 2^nd Mate certificate of competency.
• Have completed the required upgrading training course in the recognized maritime institution.
• Have completed the required mandatory training courses in the recognized maritime institution in accordance to article 16 of the ministerial decree 221/2013.
• In case of completing the seagoing service on ships of less than 3000 gross tonnage, a tonnage limited certificate of competency will be issued after meeting the other requirements for certification. The tonnage limitation will only be removed after fulfilling seagoing service requirements on ships of 3000 gross tonnage or more and passing an oral exam.

 Second Mate Officer Certificate Of Competency:

Candidates applying to sit for 2^nd Mate certificate of competency examination shall meet the following requirements according to ministerial decree 221/2013:

1. Be not less than 18 years of age.
2. Have completed a secondary school "scientific department", any equivalent Foreign education, graduates from maritime secondary school (Seamanship and fishery department) or holding a diploma in river transport.
3. Meet the medical fitness requirements for the certificate.
4. Shall fulfill the requirements of one of the following streams:

1^st stream:

Have an approved seagoing service of not less than 6 months on ships of 500 gross tonnage or more on ocean going voyages after the date of holding the 3rd officer certificate of competency.

2^nd stream:

• Have completed a basic study program of at least 2 years in the recognized maritime institution.
• Have an approved seagoing service of not less than 12 months following Guided/planned Sea training program in the capacity of deck cadet on ships of 500 gross tonnage or more on ocean going voyages. During the required seagoing service, bridge watchkeeping duties under the supervision of the master or a qualified officer for a period of not less than six months. The sea training has to be documented in the Candidate’s approved training record book.
• Have completed the required upgrading training course in the recognized maritime institution.

3^rd stream:

Have Completed study program of at least 4 years in the recognized maritime institution, which includes the required upgrading training course and an approved seagoing service of not less than 12 months following Guided/planned Sea training program in the capacity of deck cadet on ships of 500 gross tonnage or more on ocean going voyages. During the required seagoing service, bridge watchkeeping duties under the supervision of the master or a qualified officer for a period of not less than six months.  The sea training has to be documented in the Candidate’s approved training record book.

Third Mate Officer Certificate Of Competency:

Candidates applying to sit for 3^rd Mate certificate of competency examination shall meet the following requirements according to ministerial decree 221/2013:

• Be not less than 18 years of age.
• Have completed a secondary school "scientific department", any equivalent Foreign education, graduates from maritime secondary school (Seamanship and fishery department) or holding a diploma in river transport.
• Meet the medical fitness requirements for the certificate.
• Have an approved seagoing service of not less than 36 months on ships of 500 gross tonnage or more on ocean going voyages. During the required seagoing service, bridge watchkeeping duties under the supervision of the master or a qualified officer for a period of not less than six months.
• Have completed the required upgrading training course in the recognized maritime institution.
