Design and Implementation of an SRAM

Supervised by: Dr. Saleh M. Eisa   

Modern digital systems require the ability to store, retrieve and process large amount of data. Memories are the circuits that store large amount of data. Recent studies show that more than third of the worldwide semiconductor industry is associated with memory chips.
In this project, the students will classify the different types of memory and focus on the SRAM (Static Random Access Memory) design and implementation requirements. The design circuit will be simulated and implemented using Cadence or Synopsys tools.

 

Free-Space Optical Communications Hardware Implementation   

Supervised by: Dr. Mohamed Abaza

Free-space optical (FSO) communication has been the subject of ongoing research activities and commercial attention in the past few years. Such attention is driven by the promise of high data rate, license-free operation, and cheap and ecologically friendly means of communications alternative to congested radio frequency communications.
In this project, a hardware demonstration will be implemented with a laser transmitter and photodiode receiver using intensity modulation and direct detection (IM/DD) technique.

 

Security System Anti-Theft (SSAT)

Supervised by: Prof. Hesham El-Badawy

Nowadays, we hear a lot about cars/building being stolen so we thought about a system to protect cars. Some cars already has an alarm that depends on the pressure of the car which leads to false alarm which we neglect after a while, our goal is to implement an accurate system which sends an alert when it is really needed.
Project Objectives:
The project objective will improve the car security by implementing small module that will be able to perform the following added features:
• When someone tries to open the doors of the car or its trunk. The system will inform the microcontroller which will order the GPS/GSM/3G module to send an alert to the owner.
• The PIR ( peripheral infrared ) will detect if anyone is in the car and so the owner will know.
• The car will not work as no gasoline will reach it unless the system is deactivated by the owner which will make the person who wants to steal it have no option unless to trail it.
• Tin case of the car being trailed, the GPS/GSM/3G module will send an instant alert for the owner showing the coordinates of the car.

A Navigation Aid for Visually Impaired People  

Supervised by: Dr. Mohamed Tamazin

Mode of life is pretty simple with sense of vision, whereas, on the other hand, a blind person
remains aided by an assistant during his activities, hence isolating the blind from outer-world progressively. Our main objective is to compensate this lost vision with a robust system that enhances the user with variety of features as described below.
The proposed system includes a stereo-vision camera placed over the user''s head. Real time video is being processed using advanced robust image processing techniques to detect scene depth and to recognize buildings as well as their names.
The system delivers user-friendly options such as hearing the building''s name when standing in front of it through headphones attached to user''s ears. The user may know whether the building is a restaurant, a bookshop or a cafe!
The system includes the following components for ensuring safe and carefree navigation:
• GPS/GSM/GPRS: to detect users location and send SMS to the users caretaker when
needed.
• Accelerometer: placed right by the cameras side over his head. It tracks user''s height
constantly and in case user faints or falls, Location is sent to his caretaker via
GSM/GPS/GPRS module.
• Alert button: Placed over his wrist. In case, the user feels lost at any moment, he clicks on
the alert button and immediately, his address is sent to his caretaker via GSM/GPS/GPRS
module
• Vibrator and Sensors: Placed around his waist and over his shoes to avoid obstacles,
pavements and ground holes.
• Voice system: This includes the headphone/microphone to send or receive voice
messages. As mentioned earlier, headphone delivers voice messages to the user regarding
the results of Building detection. On the other hand, if the user needs to go to a specific
destination he speaks it through the microphone and the GPS starts guiding the user.
Finally, this system proves to be efficient for blind users to navigate in Arab Academy for
Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) campus. However, it can also fit well, in other campuses due to its robust prototype as well as the independent safe navigation and communications it provides to the blind.
