The MSI utilises a pool facility for training students on the STCW Personal Survival Techniques (PST) using totally enclosed motor propelled survival crafts (TEMPSC) on outrigger davits fitted on a purpose built steel structure and also a freefall lifeboat.These craft are used for OPITO-approved training for the offshore oil and gas industry and also STCW courses.
A fast rescue boat located on the Pool side Area for Proficiency in Fast Rescue Boat (FRB) initial courses and refresher training. Also a number of ‘in water’ skills are taught before practical training is undertaken using a variety of liferafts and survival equipment.

The helicopter underwater escape training (HUET) is located within pool facility using Modular Egress Training Simulator (METS) in MSI inside Academy campus, and it is of the type that facilitates a side immersion and escape into the pool including full capsize.

The MSI contains classroom dedicated to first aid and medical training. Not limited to particular types or brands, a wide variety of equipment is available to enable students to gain hands-on experience with the actual equipments found on board ships and Offshore Rigs.
Both the first aid and medical care courses give students the opportunity to carry out practical techniques, as well as gaining the theory to support these practical skills.
