A High-Level Delegation from COSCO Maritime UK Visit Port Training Institute
In an effort to open new horizons for cooperation with companies and shipping lines for the training and employment of seafarers, the Port Training Institute received a high-level delegation from COSCO Maritime UK on the morning of Monday, May 20.
The delegation included Mr. Lu Dinggang, Deputy General Manager in the UK, Mr. C.E Jun Yang, the company’s Engineering Manager, Mr. Lu Sheng, Operations Manager in the Arab Republic of Egypt, and Mr. Rami El Shami, Assistant Operations Manager.
The distinguished guests were received by Professor. Alaa Morsy, Dean of Port Training Institute and Maritime Research and Consultation Center, Dr. Gamal Abdel Nasser, Director of Education and Training, Captain Ibrahim El Attar, Head of the Marine Programs Department, and Ms. Tahiya El Sherbiny, Responsible for the career Development for Seafarers at the Institute.
The Dean of the Institute explained the vision of Port Training Institute and the Maritime Research and Consultation Center, reviewing their various activities. He then touched on the Basic Studies Department for Seafarers, presenting statistics since its inception and introducing the Professional Development Unit for Seafarers, which aims to connect seafarers with the global labor market. The guests were then taken to the meeting hall, where they watched a documentary showcasing the activities and training of students from the beginning of the basic studies course to graduation.
The meeting discussed how the company could benefit from the trained maritime workforce among the institute’s graduates, highlighting its status as one of the world's leading shipping lines. Subsequently, the guests toured the institute, including the simulation complex, and concluded the visit with a meeting with students of the Basic Studies for Seafarers to learn about their qualifications and capabilities as human resources for work on the company's ships.
The visit left a positive impression on the guests, who praised the development they witnessed at the institute, marking it as a distinguished entity in the port sector. They were also impressed by the enthusiasm of the basic studies students, which makes this visit a starting point for fruitful future cooperation in this field and the recruitment of maritime labor at the support level on global ships
