PTI was established on 26th of July 1982 as an affiliated institute to the Arab Academy for Science, technology & Maritime Transport (AASTMT).
It was inaugurated by His Excellency the Egyptian Minister of Transport in August 1987 to start his role in training and qualifying workers of the ports sector in Egypt, Arab Region, and Africa.
Port Training Institute as a distinguished Regional Training Center specialized in Capacity Building, and enhancing Human Resources Capabilities of port and logistics, in order to keep pace with International performance levels and improve the performance of port and logistics community through the Latest Modern Training facilities and an experienced staff .
PTI has unique international relations with Mediterranean and European ports helped in transferring many new experiences in the maritime industry to Egyptian and Arab ports. The ambition of the Port Training Institute to become part of the global system for training and qualifying Maritime Human Cadres was a motivation for membership in many Regional and International Maritime Organizations and unions, including: Arab Seaports Federation, International Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH), and MEDPorts Association as PTI is the South Mediterranean Regional Center for MEDPorts Association.
PTI has many International partnerships with esteemed organizations such as: Valenciaport Foundation-Spain, Genoa University-Italy, Port of Marseille –France, and Antwerp/Flanders Port Training Center (APEC)- Belgium As PTI is officially The Center of Excellence for APEC in Middle East and North Africa , PTI in cooperation with those organizations offers many join diplomas in the field of ports and logistics.
PTI also provides Specialized Training Scholarships in the field of Maritime Transport, Ports and Logistics for Egyptian and Arab ports in cooperation with APEC- Belgium, and other international bodies. PTI implements these training programs in accordance with the requirements of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the United Nations Trade and Development Program (UNCTAD) and in line with the rules of the International Labor Organization (ILO) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
PTI has received regional and international accolades and awards, including:

• The Institute received the Excellence Award in Maritime Training Education on the occasion of the World Maritime Day.
• PTI received the Run Smarter Awards in Digital Transformation in the Middle East and North Africa.
• The Institute obtained a quality certificate in maritime education and training according to the international classification from the Association (DNV.GL)
