MSc Program Learning Outcomes

Ship Operation & Marine Safety program.

program Aims

The aim of this track is to provide students with sufficient knowledge and experience in the field of shipping management and safety implementation at sea. In addition, this track aims to develop educational skills that will enable graduate students to respond to varied employment opportunities in the maritime industry, both sea and ashore.

Program learning Outcomes (PLO)

By the end of the track students will able to develop a knowledge, understanding and skills (Intellectual, Professional and practical) and demonstrate the following:

a. develop understanding the Concept of shipping management and management structure of shipping companies and seaports.

b. Appraising the structure of international safety management and port state control procedures.

c. develop the ability to identify the Types of ship surveying, ships’ surveying procedures and marine insurance applications.

d. develop understanding the Concept of International Business Management, Financial Management and Feasibility Study Explain, the maritime Legal and Regulatory framework and environment protection

e. Develop understanding of the Marine Accident Investigation procedures

f. Explain, the Process of Human Resources Management and environment protection

g. Develop students' understanding of the philosophy and purpose of statistical inferential reasoning, including likelihood, and non-parametric.

h. support ethical considerations and practice, such as the importance of maintaining objectivity, protecting the privacy and dignity of human subjects, carrying out work carefully and accurately, and reporting results completely, without bias, and with a discussion of the limitations of the analysis, in a range of research methodology. 2

Careers

This track offers excellent opportunities to those who have a marine background and have intended to quit working as seafarers and have chances to join work ashore. This study provides new carrier opportunities to work as quality assurance officers, safety officers, and marine supervisors in shipping companies and seaports.

Employability

There are wide verities of employment in Egypt and in the Middle East in general. Mostly, heads of shipping companies and seaports graduated from the institute and hold a Master’s Degree in ship operation and marine safety track.

1. Maritime Port Operation Management program

program Aim:

The aim of this track is to develop the candidate with the technical, legal, and administrative knowledge required to carry out high and medium-level careers in seaports. In addition, this track equips the student with the skills and proficiencies, and expertise required for research work to find effective solutions to develop and solve work problems in port areas.

Students who successfully complete this track will able to develop a knowledge, understanding and skills (Intellectual, Professional and practical) and demonstrate the following:

a. develop understanding the Concept of International Business Management, Financial Management and Feasibility Study Explain, the maritime Legal and Regulatory framework and environment protection

b. develop understanding the Concept of PORT management, an understanding of the health, Safety, Security, and the Environment (HSSE) in Ports.

c. Evaluate and develop planning & operations of the conventional cargo terminal

d. Develop professional practice within the International Trade Logistics, port productivity

e. Develop an understanding of the philosophy and purpose of statistical inferential reasoning, including likelihood, and non-parametric.

f. develop expert leadership, problem-solving and critical analysis skills, while operating and interacting in an international and multi-cultural environment

g. develop the ability to identify ethical considerations and practice, such as the importance of maintaining objectivity, protecting the privacy and dignity of human subjects, carrying out work carefully and accurately, and reporting results completely, without bias, and with a discussion of the limitations of the analysis, in a range of research methodology.

The master program has been designed to meet the requirements of the master Degree European Qualifications Framework (EQF) level 7

Level Descriptors of Quality Framework

Knowledge

(K1) Highly specialized factual and theoretical knowledge and an understanding of the boundaries in a field of work or discipline, encompassing a broad and coherent body of knowledge and concepts, with substantive depth in the underlying principles and theoretical concepts.

(K2) An understanding forefront knowledge, and theories in maritime fields of work or study including international regulations, standards, codes, and conventions. understanding of the critical approach to the creation and compilation of a systematic and coherent body of knowledge and concepts gained from a range of sources.

(K3) A comprehensive understanding of critical analysis, research systems and methods, and evaluative problem-solving techniques.

(K4) develop knowledge, as the basis for original thinking and/ or research and Critical awareness of maritime field and at the interface between related field. 4

Skills

Technical, creative, and analytical skills appropriate to:

1. (S1) Solve specialized problems using evidentiary and procedural-based processes in predictable and new contexts that include devising and sustaining arguments associated with a discipline.

2. (S2) Evaluate and apply appropriate methods, procedures, or techniques in processes of investigation towards identified solutions.

3. (S3) Present, explain, and/or critique complex and unpredictable matters using highly developed advanced communication and information technology skills to integrate knowledge from different fields.

4. (S4) innovate and develop appropriate research tools and strategies associated with a discipline.

Careers

This track offers excellent unique opportunities to work in different career prospects in ports. Many of our graduates went on to work at medium and high management levels in ports. This track gives great opportunities to work in different port areas as it provides comprehensive knowledge, practices, and skills in port operation, safety administration, port sustainability, and logistics.

Employability

Most of our students work for ports in the gulf area and have got great opportunities to work at high and medium management levels in Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, and Sudan.
