The 3rd ILC – Healthcare Supply Chain Management

Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Ismail Abdel Ghaffar Ismail Farag, President of the Arab Academy, the 3rd International Logistics Camp was held at the Alamein Campus from 7–9 August 2023, under the theme “Healthcare Supply Chain Management”, bringing together leading experts in healthcare, logistics, supply chain management, medical technology, and artificial intelligence.

The 3rd ILC provided free participation and learning opportunities for students, researchers, and professionals from both AASTMT and external institutions. Participants engaged in interactive workshops, virtual seminars, and laboratory tours focused on healthcare logistics and sustainability, gaining practical experience using AASTMT’s advanced simulation labs, smart classrooms, and digital logistics platforms. The camp promoted open access to educational resources, as all lectures, keynote sessions, and workshop materials were shared online for public use. Upon completion, attendees received official participation certificates endorsed by AASTMT. This initiative exemplified AASTMT’s commitment to inclusive, accessible, and high-impact education, fostering a culture of lifelong learning.

  • A notable participation came from the School of Continuing Education at the American University in Cairo, enriching the camp with expertise in professional development and applied learning. Additionally, Andalusia Group for Medical Services proudly joined as a strategic partner, reflecting its strong commitment to social responsibility and knowledge exchange in healthcare logistics — reinforcing collaboration between academia and industry.
  • This year’s theme, “Healthcare Supply Chain Management,” highlighted the vital role of logistics in ensuring efficiency, reliability, and sustainability within healthcare systems. The event featured a distinguished lineup of speakers, including Prof. Mohamed Awad Tag El-Din, Presidential Advisor for Health Affairs, and Major General Dr. Bahaa El-Din Zidan, Head of the Egyptian Authority for Unified Procurement, who discussed Egypt’s advancements in healthcare logistics and medical technology.
  • Adding to the discussions, Dr. Amira Tahio, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health in Alexandria, presented the national “100 Days of Health” campaign, while Dr. Ayman El-Khatib, Vice President of the Egyptian Drug Authority, and Major General Pharmacist Tarek Abdel Rahman addressed the unified procurement systems and international medical supply standards.
  • The camp also featured Dr. Mohamed Ansy, Head of the Alexandria Pharmacists’ Syndicate, and Mr. Khodr Kamal, Deputy Representative of UNICEF Egypt, who shared insights from UNICEF’s global vaccine supply operations under the COVAX initiative.
  • The camp provided an exceptional platform for students and professionals in logistics, pharmacy, medicine, biomedical engineering, and AI to engage with real-world healthcare supply chain challenges and innovations.
  • In his closing remarks, Prof. Ismail Abdel Ghaffar emphasized that the International Logistics Camp has become an annual flagship event, strengthening the bridge between education, industry, and research and advancing Egypt’s vision of becoming a regional hub for logistics and healthcare supply chain excellence.
