Material Culture Conservation

Objectives

  • This course introduces the care and preservation of the photographic materials and photographic studio equipment. The curriculum includes an overview of manufacture of materials in a photographic studio since the birth of photography in the late 1830s. The course provides students with a solid foundation of the physical and chemical composition of materials photographic studio. The course also presents the deterioration factors of materials of the photographic studio as well as physical, chemical, biological, and human deterioration. The course presents a study of the different methods of examining and analysis of materials photographic studio such as the traditional and modern methods of care and preservation of photographic materials.
