Pharmaceutical Organic Chemistry I (2 hrs Lecture+1 hr Practical)

  • College of Pharmacy |

Description

This course comprises an introduction, alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, halogenated hydrocarbons, alcohols, thioalcohols, phenols, aldehydes and ketones. The students are exposed to the chemistry and properties of these classes of compounds, name and type of reactions involved in their synthesis and reactions as well as some relevant mechanisms.

Program

Bachelor of Pharmacy - PharmD (Clinical Pharmacy)

Objectives

  • 1.1

Demonstrate the chemical structure of different organic compounds.

    1.2

Integrate the principles of structure hybridization, geometry, electronegativity, polarity and stereo chemistry.

    1.3

Identify the different functional groups in organic chemistry.

    2.1

Recognize nomenclature of different functional groups in the organic compounds.

    2.2

Apply organic chemistry principles for purification and identification of organic chemical compounds.

    2.3

Handle different organic compounds used in the pharmaceutical field.

    4.1

Demonstrate responsibility for team performance and express time management skills.

    4.2

Retrieve and critically analyze information, identify and solve problems, and work autonomously and effectively in a team.

    4.3

Practice independent learning needed for continuous professional development.
