Advanced Therapeutics: Anti-coagulants (1 hr Lecture + 1 hr Practical)

  • College of Pharmacy |

Description

This course provides students with the basic knowledge and skills necessary to care for patients taking anticoagulation therapies. It focuses on the physiology of the clotting system and pathophysiology of thromboembolic disorders, pharmacology of antithrombotic agents (oral and parenteral), current guidelines for patient assessment and management, and patient education regarding safe and optimal anticoagulation therapy as well as designing an anticoagulation management service for effective patient care and documentation of anticoagulation therapy for patients receiving such therapy. The course also deals with how pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics principles are used to achieve and maintain anticoagulation control within the patient’s therapy goals.
