*Educational Visit to Dina Farms*
In the efforts of enhancing practical learning and provide comprehensive insights into supply chain activities, the Logistics and Supply Chain Management Department organized an educational visit to Dina Farms on November 3, 2024. As the largest private integrated dairy farm in Egypt, Dina Farms is a leader in dairy production and distribution.
The visit covered the packaging and distribution phases. Students observed how milk and other dairy products are packaged using automated systems designed to maintain freshness and quality. They learned about the different types of packaging materials used, which are chosen for their ability to preserve product integrity while being environmentally conscious.
Furthermore, students demonstrated the various supply chain activities that support Dina Farms’ operations. This included insights into logistics, and the distribution network that ensures timely delivery of products to retailers and consumers across Egypt. They learned how the farm coordinates with suppliers for feed and other resources, as well as how it manages distribution to meet market demands effectively.
The discussions with industry professionals provided a comprehensive understanding of the complexities involved in dairy production, from farm to consumer, and highlighted the importance of efficient supply chain management in achieving operational success.
The Logistics and Supply Chain Management (LSCM) department recognizes the importance of experiential learning. To enhance students' academic understanding and provide practical insights into the industry, the department organizes frequent field trips to leading companies. These visits bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world application, offering students invaluable experiences that complement their classroom learning.
For example, a recent trip to Edita's manufacturing plant provided students with a unique opportunity. They not only engaged with the Supply Chain Manager, gaining insights into the latest trends in FMCG (Fast-Moving Consumer Goods) supply chain management, but also toured the production lines of popular products like Molto and Twinkies. Witnessing firsthand the intricate logistics activities and supply chain practices that contribute to Edita's success solidified their theoretical understanding and provided a practical perspective. https://www.facebook.com/profile/100057180590828/search/?q=Edita
Similarly, a visit to Beyti, Egypt's largest milk producer, offered valuable exposure to various aspects of the dairy industry. Students gained insights from top experts in manufacturing, safety, quality, and logistics. By observing the entire production process, from the arrival of milk trucks to the packaging and warehousing of finished products, they were able to see how theoretical concepts of supply chain management are applied in a real-world setting. This experience highlighted the practical challenges and complexities involved in managing a successful dairy supply chain. https://www.facebook.com/profile/100057180590828/search/?q=Beyti
The department's commitment to experiential learning extends beyond traditional manufacturing settings. A trip to Pico Modern Agriculture Company introduced students to the unique challenges and operations within the farm-to-fork supply chain. They explored the intricate logistics involved in agriculture, from planting and harvesting strawberries to packaging and distributing the produce. This visit provided them with a comprehensive understanding of the complexities involved in bringing fresh produce from farm to table.https://www.facebook.com/profile/100057180590828/search/?q=Pico
Furthermore, a visit to the Prometeon (Pirelli) manufacturing plant allowed students to delve into the world of tire production. They attended informative presentations on the company's product portfolio and health and safety protocols, followed by a comprehensive tour of the entire manufacturing process. This immersive experience provided a detailed understanding of the supply chain operations within the tire industry.https://www.facebook.com/profile/100057180590828/search/?q=Pirelli
These meticulously planned field trips are a cornerstone of the LSCM program. By visiting diverse companies and witnessing various aspects of supply chain management in action, students gain invaluable insights and practical experiences. This prepares them for successful careers in the ever-evolving logistics and supply chain industry, ensuring they are well-equipped to bridge the gap between theory and practice.
