Description
The course provides the students with a comprehensive overview of the chemistry of the major biomolecules. Structure, stereochemistry, properties, cellular and body distribution, and of carbohydrates, lipids, proteins and nucleic acids are discussed. It also covers the catalytic s of enzymes (theories of enzyme action- enzyme kinetics- specificity- inhibition and regulation of enzyme activity), vitamins and coenzymes

Objectives
- Domain (1): Fundamental knowledge
By the end of the course the student should be able to:
Describe the Structure and stereochemistry of cellular biomolecules, including carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, enzymes, and water and fat soluble vitamins.
Discuss the function of enzymes as biologic catalysts.
Summarize water-soluble and fat-soluble vitamins.
Correlate the structural aberrations or modifications of cellular biomolecules with disease conditions as well as therapeutic utility.
Domain (2): Professional and Ethical Practice
Classify carbohydrates, proteins, lipids and nucleic acids on the basis of their structure.
Compare between different factors affecting enzyme kinetics as well as enzyme inhibitors.
Contribute to planning and conducting research studies using appropriate methodologies.
Perform experiments to identify the properties of the compound classes studied.

At the end of the course the student should be able to:
