Objectives
- Domain (1): Fundamental knowledge
By the end of the course the student should be able to:
1.1 Demonstrate understanding of knowledge of the basics of medical terms.
1.2 Utilize the proper medical terms, abbreviations and symbols in pharmacy practice and list the most common prefixes.
1.3 Recall the most common roots.
1.4 Memorize the most common suffixes.
Domain (2): Professional and Ethical Practice
At the end of the course the student should be able to:
2.1 Differentiate between word root, suffix, prefix and combining form, recognize own personal and professional limitations and accept the conditions of referral to or guidance from other members of the health care team.
2.2 Distinguish abbreviations used in prescription dispensing, interpret, and critically evaluate evidence-based information needed in pharmacy profession.
2.3 Contribute to planning and conducting research studies using appropriate methodologies and categorize drugs groups.
Domain (3): Pharmaceutical Care
At the end of the course the student should be able to:
3.1 Practice how medical terminology works and how to dispense a prescription, educate and counsel patients, other health care professionals, and communities about safe and proper use of medicines including OTC preparations and medical devices.
3.2 Gather and integrate information relevant to common medical and pharmaceutical terminology.
3.3 Discuss how the different values, beliefs and cultural backgrounds of consumers may influence the way in which professional services are provided.
Domain (4): Personal Practice
At the end of the course the student should be able to:
4.1 Demonstrate responsibility for team performance and peer evaluation of other team members, and express time management skills.
4.2 Retrieve and critically analyze information, identify, and solve problems, and work autonomously and effectively in a team.
4.3 Use new technologies and media to demonstrate effective presentation skills.
4.4 Practice independent learning needed for continuous professional development.
