This course aims to provide an understanding and critical awareness of the principles and practice of business development in the context of the oil and gas industry, with view to producing a business development plan.it also familiarize students with some of the documents which are in common use in the domestic, on shore oil and gas business. The course will stress solutions, which are to be worked out by the students, for problems which are presented to counsel representing oil and gas companies.

  • On completion of this module, students are expected to be able to: • Establish and assess the fundamental business development tasks and activities. • Critically review the structure of the oil and gas industry with view to identifying business development opportunity. • Identify and critically appraise a number of methods and strategies used to aid commercial business development in the oil and gas industry. • Understand and evaluate the complexities of contractual arrangements for organizations operating in the oil and gas industry. • Explain the principal licensing and contractual arrangements which are found in the international oil and gas industry. • Identify the key legal contractual risk management issues. • Identify the international dispute resolution framework and institutions. • Appraise and discuss the structure of the oil and gas industry contractual matrix. • Analyze, discuss and justify some of the main contractual clauses in the main contracts in the oil and gas industry.
