The course is designed to provide a broad foundation in strategic management research and it provides an insight to the practical application of advanced topics and trends in strategic management in current and future dynamic business environment. It begins with an introduction to the core concepts of strategy and the various factors that may influence performance. Then briefly a number of topics will be covered that are central to research in strategic management. The goal of the course is to get students familiar with the important theoretical perspectives and interesting phenomena, and to generate original research ideas in the field of strategic management. It uses case-studies approach to explain the new trends in strategic implementation issues in different fields. This course introduces a wide view of the technological trends that have great effects on global business environment. The seminar focuses on macro (economic and sociological) perspectives towards strategy, entrepreneurship, strategy implementation and evaluation, international business and technology management. The course covers several topics, which include the resource-based view of the firm, industry evolution and dynamics, strategy-related theories of the firm, and diversification and vertical integration, as well as specific areas such as technology management and information and agency.

  • By the end of this course, each student should be able to: • Develop knowledge of emerging and critical issues in strategic management field. • Develop students’ research skills in strategic management research. • Review wide range of research on strategic management, from the theoretical to the empirical, and from the classic to the current. • Identify a strategic perspective on (e.g., innovation, digital transformation, knowledge management, and business ethics) in a dynamic business environment. • Define their changes in business environment and corporation’s operations. • Understand the different strategies required to adopt the organizational operations with these new trends. • Evaluate the organizational capabilities to efficiently and effectively utilize these new trends and their effect on strategic decision-making processes. • Design a flexible strategy to take into consideration the evolving nature of these advanced business trends. • Align the designed strategy with the organizational culture and leadership • Apply the developed strategy to optimize the organizational supply-chain to create a self-sustainable competitive advantage. • Discuss performance differences between firms within and across industries. • Develop students’ critical thinking skills for strategic problems solving. • Apply a variety of theoretical and empirical approaches for solving strategic problems. • Develop a portfolio of theories and methods with which students become familiar with in understanding today’s firms’ strategic moves.
