Description

The course provides students with a conceptual framework addressing the strategic importance of managing change and organization development in various agencies, human service organizations, community organizations and other settings. This course aims to help students understand and formulate effective strategies to develop organisations and assist individuals to cope with continuous change occurring at both the national and international levels. This course increases students understanding of dealing with and managing multiple aspects of organizational change. It enables students to develop different approaches and responses to organizational change from a human and process perspective. The course readings are aimed at expanding awareness and knowledge of multiple issues associated with change. The course aimed at skill building in ways that are related to students own organizational settings. Students will learn key skills for overcoming resistance to change in times of uncertainty, and for facilitating the transition process.

  • By the end of this course, each student should be able to: • Comprehend the core dynamics of change in organizations: triggers, politics, targets, and effects. • Understand the organizational development and change theories and concepts. • Develop and communicate a vision beyond the change. • Analyze environmental factors, resistance to change and driving forces. • Examine the change forces inside and outside the organization. • Discuss the appropriate methods and approaches for organization development and change. • Leverage organizational culture to prevent resistance and promote accountability. • Develop action plans to deal with organizational change. • Identify change types, plan and manage change management projects. • Apply change management concepts and best practices. • Use technical and strategic problem solving skills to facilitate change management projects • Use leadership competencies, and emotional intelligence skills to manage change and manage teams. • Review and evaluate the success and failure of organizational development and change initiatives.
