Description

This course introduces various types of information systems as a key resource in organizations, how information is processed in business information systems, and how huge volume of accounting, financial, marketing or human resource data can be transformed into actionable information and used strategically to improve efficiency. Databases and information management are also introduced, together with e-commerce concepts such as digital markets and digital goods. Finally, the course aims to help students understand issues related to building information systems and managing projects. Ethical issues surrounding the use of information within business organizations will also be addressed in this course.

  • By the end of this course, it is expected that students will be able to: • Understand the core principles and definitions of Management Information Systems • Introduce different types of information systems’ needs, and how it operates, and evaluate its performance in modern business organizations. • Evaluate and formulate information systems strategies to achieve organizations goals. • Emphasize organization environment, technology, decision models, and performance evaluation as the major determinants of Information Systems success. • Recognize how MIS collect and process information to support business decisions. • Introduce the fundamentals of database (DB) and database management systems (DBMS). • Explain the database system process and introduce the fundamentals of data modeling. • Describe ethical procedures to handle personal data in Business Information Systems.
