Description

This course is designed to give media and business professionals, management executives, and media agency executives, the tools they need to successfully prepare for, manage, and recover from crisis situations. It helps students understand the nature of crises in the business and media field. The course deals firstly with theoretical crisis management then with practical media handling skills within a crisis framework. It provides knowledge of the stages for crisis management and communication issues, risk and crisis management approaches. It develops students’ awareness of the universal techniques that can be used in any crisis or severe issue. Students are better able to develop action plans and take part in series of media interviews tailored to meet the needs of organizations experiencing crisis management situations.

Objectives

  • Upon course completion, students should be able to: • Develop the appropriate strategy to rapidly, correctly, comprehensively, and objectively deal with a disaster or crisis that threatens the image and viability of an organization. • Enable students develop comprehensive protection, management, and communication plans and allocate the appropriate time and resources to crisis planning. • Analyze actual crisis case studies and demonstrate how to minimize risk; create a crisis plan; and manage, survive, and recover from a crisis. • Gain diagnostic skills to detect and prevent escalation of negative organizational issues into uncontrollable crisis situations. • Learn the distinguishing features of crisis preparedness and methods to advance their adoption in human systems. • Developing an action plan, dealing with door stepping journalists and handling live media interviews.
