This course is designed to focus on the important role of compliance officers and experts of healthcare sector in guaranteeing the compliance to laws and regulations that organize their business, and also the internal policies, charters and code of ethics and business conduct in all kinds of healthcare organizations. Failure to comply with regulations and guidance can result in improper patient care, damage to a facility’s reputation, huge fines, and loss of accreditation, lawsuits, and potentially costly settlements. It’s imperative to have an effective healthcare compliance officer. The course aims to provide healthcare organizations with a powerful solution to meet government standards, maintain accreditation, reduce risk, and avoid fines.

Objectives

  • The objective of this course is to provide students with knowledge to implement segregation of duties and internal controls in the accounting department and business cycles of healthcare organizations in compliance with laws and regulations. Safeguard information technology systems and data centers. Design and maintain financial controls in healthcare sector. Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:  Identify the meaning of compliance in healthcare sector.  Understand the role and ethical norms of the compliance professional in the Healthcare sector.  Describe the seven essential elements of an effective compliance plan.  Discuss the core elements of, and defenses to, the major laws that inform corporate compliance policies in the Healthcare sector industry, with particular focus on fraud, waste, and abuse, including their relationship to off-label promotion.  Know the seven elements of an effective compliance program, and how OIG guidance and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines inform the creation of compliance programs, policies, and procedures.  Develop the foundation of an ethical culture.  Mitigate risk and promote adherence to compliance objectives.  Understand the framework to assess a potential compliance problem.
