This course provides an understanding of finance in the international context. The course exposes the students to the opportunities and risks associated with international finance. The course coverage includes historical perspectives and foundations of international finance, the foreign exchange markets and exchange rate determination, exposure management, financial management of a multinational firm. This course will enrich student knowledge on financial management aspects of multinational firms. The course also helps students examine the current economic landscape through topical discussions of current economic and political development and their impact on international finance

Objectives

  • Upon the end of this course, students should be able to:  Study the international financial environment including the international flow of funds, international financial markets, and exchange rate determination.  Deal with the basic conceptual aspects for financial planning and decision making in MNC.  Discuss contemporary international financial issues, which considered necessary for business people to help in understanding the International economic environment of the business.  Examine tools of International economic analysis and quantitative methods used in the decision-making process, and in measuring international financial indicators.  Solve problems related to international arbitrage and interest rate parity using locational arbitrage, triangular arbitrage and covered interest arbitrage.  Understand exchange rate behavior including government influence, interest rate parity and arbitrage.  Apply risk management techniques as they relate to managing transaction exposure.  Develop specific financial skills relating to long-term asset and liability management from a multinational corporation perspective.
