This course aims to introduce students to new trends in tourism and hospitality. It aims to provide students with a contemporary understanding of the contemporary approaches highlighting the ongoing threats facing the tourism and hospitality industry. It familiarizes students with examining and creating solutions to the chosen current issues or case studies in the tourism and hospitality industry.

Objectives

  • Identify and analyze the market groups of urban and rural tourism.  Make discussions on special types of tourism for example dark tourism.  Understand the trends and consumer behavior for urban and rural tourism.  Analyze the operation of OTOP destinations.  Create strategic plans to develop rural tourism and its products in the local community.  Demonstrate the important role of governments in tourism.  Explain the detrimental effect of tourism on destination.  Explain the contemporary tourism systems.  Demonstrate the contemporary issues in hospitality organizations and in tourism.  Report contemporary approaches to managing and developing different sectors in tourism.  Report threats from terrorism, health, faced by tourism industry and related security issues.  Determine risk management strategies.  Differentiate between different factors influencing tourism industry.  Analyze the new approaches and challenges facing tourism and hospitality.  Identify different factors influencing contemporary tourism and hospitality industry.  Apply new concepts and practices in tourism and hospitality industry.
