Description

This course will navigate through the history of quality and introduce the students to the basic concepts of quality management, continuous quality improvement, total quality management as well as the notion of ISO and its association with upgrading the quality of hospital services. Students will be presented to an in-depth analysis of the quality dimensions and requirements which determine the quality level of the service: technical competency, access to service, efficiency, effectiveness, and customer satisfaction. The second part of the course will introduce students to basic principles of TQM: customer-oriented, focus on processes, prevention versus inspection, mobilizing expertise of workforce, fact-based decision making and continuous feedback as well as a thorough examination of the relationship between quality and cost in hospital settings.
