Description

Students spend the training period on a training/fishing vessel while steaming at sea. The training program is designed to cover all navigation-related and fishing-related techniques. The assessment is held during and after the training period which includes in the following courses:rn1. GST 1 - Fishing Vessels Maneuvering and Emergency Proceduresrn2. GST 2 - Operative Electronic Navigation Systemsrn3. GST 3 - Practical Seamanshiprn4. GST 4 - Practical Navigationrn5. GST 5 - Rule of the Road (COLREG)

Objectives

  • A. Knowledge and UnderstandingrnAt the end of the course, students should be able to :rn1. Do onboard session practices, Seamanship, Navigation, Ship maneuvering and handling, Maritime regulations as well as ship’s machinery.rn2. Know the basic principles of navigation, and familiar with the nautical charts and publications.rn3. Realize the importance of fisheries navigation and understand the main concept. B. Intellectual SkillsrnThe course provides students with:rn1. Handle and maneuver the vessel in the proper way in different weather conditions.rn2. Identify the limitation of electronic navigation system.rn3. Use the steering and deal with the course deviation situation.rn4. Analyze all available information in the particular situation.rn5. Integrate base knowledge and critical thinking to address novel challenges and solutions. C. Professional and Practical skillsrnAt the end of the course, students should be able to :rn1. Berthing and un berthing of fishing vesselrn2. Recognize actions to be taken in case of emergencyrn3. Identify on the different methods of using fish finding devices, fishing vessel operations and navigational equipmentrn4. Perform passage plan from port to portrn5. Apply knowledge of mathematics, science, design and marine practice integrally to solve navigation problems.rnD. General and Transferable skillsrnAt the end of the course, students should be able to :rn1. Demonstrate sufficient knowledge, skill and understanding of navigation systems and electronic charts to undertake the duties of a navigational watch.rn2. Thick independently.rn3. Pay attention to finer details.rn4. Communicate, interact and work creatively and flexibly with others on board.rn5. Efficiently use information technologies to support problem solving and decision making.
