IMO International Day of Women in the Maritime Field

In implementation of IMO General Assembly Resolution No. A.1147 (31) titled “Preserving the legacy of the 2019 Global Maritime Emblem and achieving a barrier-free work environment for women in the maritime sector”. It was adopted at the Assembly’s 31st session at the end of 2019.
In 2021, the International Maritime Organization adopted a resolution declaring the celebration of the International Maritime Organization`s International Day of Women Working in the Maritime Field on May 18 of each year. The first day takes place in 2022.
This day celebrates women in industry and aims to promote women`s employment, retention and sustainable employment in the maritime sector, raise the profile of women in the maritime domain, advance IMO`s commitment to UN Sustainable Development Goal 5 (gender equality) and support action to address the current gender imbalance in the maritime domain.
IMO Member States, Maritime Women`s Associations and the Maritime Industry, and all other maritime actors are invited to promote and celebrate International Maritime Women`s Day in an appropriate and meaningful manner.
In this context, the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport and the Maritime Transport Sector in the Arab Republic of Egypt celebrate this day at the headquarters of the Arab Academy in El Alamein, which includes two workshops and presentation of successful experiences.
