Phase I (Pre-Clerkship Phase)
This phase extends over four semesters and aims to provide the student with information and practical skills in the basic medical sciences through a Competency-Based Integrated Curriculum.
The phase begins with an introductory course (Introduction to Medical Profession) aimed at providing the student with basic and general information about studying medicine and practicing the profession and acquiring the basic skills necessary for learning.
This period is used to integrate the student into the university community.
The study of basic medical sciences begins with two introductory courses taught through the first semester, focusing on cell biology, tissue organization, and host defense mechanisms.
This is followed by a number of integrated courses divided according to the different body systems (System Based). The student studies the structure and functions of the different body organs and the basics of pathology and pharmacology.During this phase, students will gain early clinical experience through clinical skills training courses which extend horizontally through the pre-clerkship phase of four semesters.
Phase II (Clerkship phase)
This phase extends over six semesters (from the fifth to the tenth semester) and aims to prepare the graduate to practice the medical profession and to provide a safe and high-quality health service in his workplace in primary health care centers. This stage includes a number of integrated courses in which the student studies general medicine and surgery and its subspecialties integrated with basic medical sciences. The study at that stage is mainly based on clinical training within health care centers at their various levels, in addition to developing students'' critical thinking skills through discussion of case-based clinical scenarios.
Moreover, the program includes a vertical course (titled Medical Profession) that extends over five years aiming to develop students&rsquo communication and professional skills. Students are also trained on the basics of scientific research through another vertical course entitled (Research Skills).
