Description

The production of documentaries course provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the various stages of documentary production, including research, writing, directing, cinematography, and post-production. Students learn techniques for developing compelling stories, conducting interviews, and managing legal and ethicalconsiderations related to the production process. Through a series of practical projects, the course gives students the opportunity to develop and hone their skills in producing, shooting, and editing documentaries. Students will acquire practical skills to produce a documentary project from start to finish, with feedback from industry professionals. Upon completion of the course, students will have a solid foundation to pursue careers in documentary filmmaking.

Objectives

  •  Learn about the opportunities available to the independent documentary producer of the entire documentary production process, from idea through distribution.  Differentiate between documentary genres through viewing documentary films.  Be able to identify the story, structure, and style of the documentary.  address related issues such as the budget, financial, and technical aspects of television documentaries.  2draft a written synopsis for a television documentary of specified time with the option to independently produce a presentation video.  Demonstrate understanding of in archival footage, interview techniques, location shooting, editing, and other related areas.
