Revalidation of Certificates, continuity of professional competence and updating of knowledgeEnsuring
the continuity of professional competence of masters, deck and engineer officers:The competent maritime authority issues the revalidation for the certificates of competency for master, deck and engineer officers on recommendations from the main examination committee after the fulfillment of the following by the Candidate:
- Meet the medical fitness requirements for the certificate
- Have completed the required mandatory training courses in the recognized maritime institution and the knowledge updating training course
- Verifying of the continuity of the professional competence for masters, deck and engineer officers in a period not to exceed 5 years from the date of issuing of the certificate of competency in accordance to one of the following streams :::
First stream:////Have an approved seagoing service of not less than one year during the preceding five years or three months during the preceding six months immediately prior to revalidating::
Second stream://// Having performed functions considered to be equivalent to the seagoing service required for not less than two years during the preceding five years prior to revalidating in one of the following capacity:
- Marine pilots holding Master Certificate of competency and performing pilotage operations
- Senior pilot ashore whom are controlling pilotage operations
- Marine and Engineering examiners and surveyors.
- Marine and engineering lecturers in the recognized maritime institution
- Head of Port authorities
- Heads, Deck and Engineer officers in charge of the operations of dry docks and whom are responsible of docking and refloating of ships
- Supervisors, deck and engineer officers onboard marine dredgers
- Ship and cargo surveyors
- Marine engineers in shipyards
- Classification Societies surveyors
- Or other equivalent functions after the approval of the competent maritime authority
Third stream
- Passing an approved oral examination for the required certificating if approved seagoing service have exceeded five years from the date of revalidation
- Optionally complete the approved upgrading training course for the required certification if the certificate of competency have not revalidated for more than five years but less than 10 years from the date of revalidation and passing an approved oral examination for the required certificate
- completing the approved upgrading training course for the required certification if the certificate of competency have not been revalidated for more than 10 years from the date of revalidation and passing an approved oral examination for the required certificate
